Position Director of Engineering
Jobdescription WMAR, the Scripps ABC station in Baltimore, MD is hiring a Director of Engineering (DOE)! The DOE leads a team that provides world-class customer service to all internal and external business partners with a positive “can-do” attitude. You'll oversee the entire infrastructure and manage the design, specifications, documentation, maintenance and installation of technical systems and workflows.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Model and lead a culture of empathy, customer service and leadership.

Lead the research, design, installation and repair of all television, digital, OTT, Internet Systems, high power RF systems, production environments and all associated equipment using current platforms and protocols. Manage building facilities and grounds, including HVAC, power generation and security systems.

Partner with the news department to develop, build and support content workflow and support systems including integration and problem-solving software, hardware, networking and infrastructure while facilitating a collaborative environment between newsroom and production control staff.

Motivate and manage a staff of professional and technical engineers, operators and IT technicians. Develop and grow staff in technology and Scripps culture to meet the on-going and future technological needs of the station, and evaluate staff growth opportunities and assessments

Establish and implement engineering policies and procedures.

Evaluate and maintain the spectrum and broadband usage of the facility.

Manage projects.

Plan, design and document current and future broadcast and digital systems.

Collaborate with other departments to determine current and future studio and transmission and workflow needs.

Prepare and track capital, expense, repair and maintenance budgets.

Use company purchasing management system to purchase and track assets and services as well as replacement cycles.

Evaluate equipment solutions.

Keep the station compliant with the FCC Rules and Regulations, as well as related local, state, and federal regulations.

Perform other duties as needed.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Associate degree in computer science, electrical or electronic engineering; or equivalent experience required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

At least 5 years broadcast operations experience required.

At least 2 years supervisory experience required.

Network, SBE and/or Project Management certification preferred.

Experience with labor unions preferred.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:

Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.
