| Jobdescription | WMAR, the Scripps ABC station in Baltimore, MD is hiring a Director of Engineering (DOE)! The DOE leads a team that provides world-class customer service to all internal and external business partners with a positive “can-do” attitude. You'll oversee the entire infrastructure and manage the design, specifications, documentation, maintenance and installation of technical systems and workflows. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Model and lead a culture of empathy, customer service and leadership. Lead the research, design, installation and repair of all television, digital, OTT, Internet Systems, high power RF systems, production environments and all associated equipment using current platforms and protocols. Manage building facilities and grounds, including HVAC, power generation and security systems. Partner with the news department to develop, build and support content workflow and support systems including integration and problem-solving software, hardware, networking and infrastructure while facilitating a collaborative environment between newsroom and production control staff. Motivate and manage a staff of professional and technical engineers, operators and IT technicians. Develop and grow staff in technology and Scripps culture to meet the on-going and future technological needs of the station, and evaluate staff growth opportunities and assessments Establish and implement engineering policies and procedures. Evaluate and maintain the spectrum and broadband usage of the facility. Manage projects. Plan, design and document current and future broadcast and digital systems. Collaborate with other departments to determine current and future studio and transmission and workflow needs. Prepare and track capital, expense, repair and maintenance budgets. Use company purchasing management system to purchase and track assets and services as well as replacement cycles. Evaluate equipment solutions. Keep the station compliant with the FCC Rules and Regulations, as well as related local, state, and federal regulations. Perform other duties as needed. WHAT YOU'LL NEED: Associate degree in computer science, electrical or electronic engineering; or equivalent experience required. Bachelor's degree preferred. At least 5 years broadcast operations experience required. At least 2 years supervisory experience required. Network, SBE and/or Project Management certification preferred. Experience with labor unions preferred. WHAT YOU'LL BRING: A “customer service first” mindset and an ability to consistently deliver a high level of customer service and support. Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated strategic planning abilities. Excellent managerial skills in working with management, users, staff, peers and vendors. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to relate technical matters to non-technical users. Ability to relate business matters to technical staff. Team player. Highly self-directed and can work independently. Strong project management skills. Can manage shifting priorities, demands and timelines smoothly. Knowledge of FCC rules. Demonstrated understanding of electronic, electrical, mechanical and information systems. Must have a keen interest in emerging broadcast related technologies and how they might be utilized in our business environment. ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS: Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required. |
